What are you waiting for? Put your coat on and get out there! Still in need of some more inspiration? Check out our roundups of the best new theatre or book yourself a table at one of the city’s best restaurants or bars.

This is also a great time of year to explore London on a budget and without the crowds before the masses descent for the King’s coronation in a couple of weeks. Still got some gaps in your diary? Make some time to check out London’s major art exhibitions this weekend, from Tate Modern’s brilliant show of Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz ’s towering fabric sculptures to the V&A’s triumphant ‘Africa Fashion’ exhibition, or see five-star photography from Baldwin Lee at the David Hill Gallery in Ladbroke Grove. Or, see top notch art in the form of Marguerite Humeau’s White Cube show combining sculpture, AI, craft and insect science to speculate on our future society and the chance to see two giants of abstraction, Hilma Af Klint and Piet Mondrian, in the Tate Modern’s new ‘in conversation’ show. Or, settle down to watch another play about an acting great: Jack Thorne is back at the National Theatre with ‘The Motive and the Cue’, a dramatisation directed by Sam Mendez of the complicated relationship between Richard Burton and John Gielgud. There’s also exciting new theatre happening this week, including a new show from Ryan Calais Cameron – creator of sleeper hit ‘For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets Too Heavy’ – charting the rise to fame of screen legend Sidney Poitier. If you’re in need of ways to fill your bumper three days off, look no further than our guides to the coronation weekend packed with Union Jack bunting-filled fun, or more alternative events if you’d rather avoid the pomp and ceremony but still want to make the most of that extra day off. Whether you’re a die-hard monarchist or staunch Republican, you can’t balk at the fact we’re getting an extra bank holiday on Monday May 8 to mark the occassion.

It can only mean one thing: it’s coronation weekend. The streets, the pubs and your Nan’s shrubbery are covered in Union Jack flags, there are deals on Pimms’ in every supermarket and huge pictures of King Charles’s face in every major rail station.
